Gary Wayne Groves, Sr., 66, of Columbus, Georgia passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February, 21, 2020. A Celebration of Gary’s life will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, February 26, 2020 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, 31907. Entombment will follow in the Chapel of The Pines Mausoleum in Parkhill Cemetery. Reverend Danny Roberts will be officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
Gary was born August 8, 1953 in Omaha, Nebraska, son of the late A.R. Groves and Christine Pinkston Groves. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, serving 10 distinguished years. It was in the navy where he met the love of his life, Brenda. Their marriage was filled with happiness and love. Gary loved traveling and being with his family. One of his favorite things to do was supporting his granddaughters in dance. His presence will be missed daily, but his memory will live forever in our hearts.
He was preceded in death by his parents. His memory will be cherished by his loving wife of 38 years, Brenda; two sons, Gary Wayne Groves and his wife, Angel, and Sean Groves; two granddaughters, Kinzlee and Kylee Groves; one brother, Gerald Groves and his wife, Jeanelle; one brother-in-law, Kent Mills, Jr., and his wife, Gwen; one sister-in-law, Marcia Harman and her husband, Darryl; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His memory will also be remember by his cherished work family and those he served at Steris Corporation.
