Frederick "Pete" Crutchfield December 25, 1920- March 7, 2017 Smiths, AL- Frederick "Pete" Crutchfield, 96, of Smiths, AL, died Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at his home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, March 10, 2017 in the Edgewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. Immediately following the service, the family will receive friends at a reception to honor Pete's Life in the Mill Room at Striffler-Hamby. Pete was born December 25, 1920 in High Springs, FL, the son of the late Hervey and Mary Crutchfield. He served in World War II as a tail gunner of a B-17 Bomber flying 48 missions, during which he was awarded the Purple Heart among many other medals and ribbons. After the war he moved to Columbus, GA to work for Dixie Distributing, where he worked for 37 years. In addition to his parents, Pete was preceded in death by his wife, Polly, his daughter, Becky Long, his brothers, Harry and Ralph Crutchfield and his sister, Thelma Kells. Survivors include three daughters, Candy Langford, Penny Greer, and Bobby O'Neal; eight grandchildren, Lee Bolton, Mindy Bolton, Jennifer Harper, Micky Daniel, Moni Feltman, Cary Feltman, Carolyn Sheley and Robbie Long; twelve great grandchildren.
