Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) Frank P. Misiak, 95, of Columbus, GA, peacefully passed at Columbus Hospice with family by his side. Visitation with Rosary will be held, Thursday August 10, 2023 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary. A funeral Mass will be held at St. Anne Catholic Church on Friday August 11, 2023 at 10:00 a.m, followed by graveside service with Military Honors at 1:30 p.m. in the Main Post Cemetery, Fort Benning, GA.
CSM Misiak was born February 22, 1928, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, to John and Mary Misiak. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1946. By December 1950, he married Columbus native, Carolyn Wadkins Misiak. They shared 43 years of marriage, until her passing in 1993. CSM Misiak served the United States Army with distinction for more than 30 years. His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (one Oak Leaf Cluster), Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal (two Oak Leaf Clusters), Good Conduct Medal (8th Award),World War II Victory Medal, National Defense Service Medal (one Oak Leaf Cluster), Vietnam Service Medal (two Bronze Stars), Vietnam Armed Forces Honor Medal (2d Class), Vietnam Staff Service Medal (2d Class), Vietnam Campaign Medal (60 Device), 2 Overseas Service Bars, 10 Service Stripes, Combat Infantryman Badge, Expert Infantryman Badge, Glider Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Canadian Forces Parachutist Badge, Vietnam Parachutist Badge (Master Level).
Frank leaves behind a legacy of love and family. Left to cherish his memory are daughter, Marilyn M.
(Chris) Christy of Duluth, Ga; son, John A. (Kathy) Misiak of Sarasota, FL; and three granddaughters, Christine Christy of Marietta, Ga; Karen Christy Mallis of San Diego, Ca; Caroline Christy of Marietta, Ga.
