Lifetime Columbus resident Frank Brazil passed away from complications of pneumonia, while visiting his daughter in Los Angeles. Funeral services will be held at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus, GA on Monday, July 2, 2012 at 11:00 AM. Burial will follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday afternoon from 4:00-6:00 PM.
Frank, a World War II hero, served in the Army during World War II, and received a Purple Heart and Bronze Star for his valiant efforts while in battle on the banks of Normandy.
Frank later became a police officer, first with the Muscogee County Sheriff’s Department and then with the Columbus Police Department. He retired from law enforcement in 1986, after thirty years of service.
Married to Floy Brazil (who passed away in 1994) for forty seven years, Frank had two children, David and Nancy, and a granddaughter, Georgia. His family meant everything to him, and he was a devout Christian and member of Northside Baptist Church. Frank loved to farm, exercise and play bingo with his friends.
Frank also loved traveling to Los Angeles to spend time with his daughter, son-in-law John Raber, and granddaughter, and went several times a year. He was in their loving care in the end. Frank will be deeply missed from the lives of his family. He is survived by son David Brazil, Atlanta, daughter Nancy Brazil, granddaughter Georgia Raber and son-in-law John Raber.
