Fay Woodfin Jones Rayburn, 93, died March 3, 2012 at Magnolia Manor, Americus, GA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 10, 2012 at 3:00 PM at St. Luke United Methodist Church, Turner Chapel with Reverend Helen Berenthien officiating. The family will receive friends at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd., Columbus on Friday evening from 5:00 - 7:00 PM.
Mrs. Rayburn was a life-long resident of Columbus. She was born here in 1918, a daughter of H. Kirk and Woodfin Livingston Jones. Mrs. Rayburn had retired in 1983 after 30 years of Civil Service at Fort Benning. She was a member of St. Luke United Methodist Church, and had been continuously active over the years working in and supervising the nursery, teaching Sunday School in the Elementary Department, and doing secretarial work for the Youth Department. She joined the Wesleyan Service Guild in 1949, and continuously served in that organization, and later as a charter member of United Methodist Women Circle 10, until the time of her death. She had been a member of the Pilot Club of Columbus for 17 years, serving as president 1978-1979.
Survivors include a daughter, Linda Rayburn Wabler, and her husband, Robert C. Wabler, Jr. of Irvine, California, a grandson, Robert C. Wabler, III of Boston, Massachusetts, and many nieces and nephews.
