Mrs. Eva Stephens Copland, age 98, passed at 2:01 pm, Sunday, August 30, 2020 of complications following surgery for a broken hip. Mrs. Copland was born November 11, 1921 in Cusseta, Georgia, as Eva Mae Stephens. She was a former resident of Columbus, Georgia, and most recently resided at Carlyle Place, in Macon, Georgia. As an Air Force wife, Mrs. Copland lived in many places around the world, including Tennessee, Mississippi, California, Washington (state), Wyoming, Florida, Colorado, Japan, and Germany. She loved to travel but always returned with her family to her home state of Georgia.
After raising her four children, Mrs. Copland graduated from the University of Wyoming with a Masters Degree in Accounting. She became a Certified Public Accountant and worked as an auditor for the U.S. General Accounting Office. Mr. Copland was a Major in the U.S. Air Force, and a World War II veteran. Eva was an avid bridge player and enjoyed doing crossword puzzles.
Mrs. Copland was predeceased by her husband, Hodnett James Copland, Jr., her parents Ralph Waldo Stephens and Julia Alberta Britt Stephens, and her grandson Jeremiah Mark Barnum.
Mrs. Copland is survived by her four children, six grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Her daughter, Susan Elise Copland lives in Elizabethtown, Kentucky with her daughter and three grandchildren; her son William Henry Copland resides in Billings, Montana with his wife Kari; her son Ralph Stephens Copland lives in Roswell, Georgia with his wife Marsha; and her son Hodnett James Copland, III lives in Cobb County, Georgia with his wife Jayne.
Services will be held Tuesday September 8th at 2 pm at Striffler-Hamby Funeral Home, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia. Due to Covid-19, seating will be limited to 60 people. Due to the age and compromised health conditions of some attendees, it is requested that all attendees wear masks and maintain social distancing. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Operation Smile, one of Eva's favorite charities.
