Dan was born on August 12, 1942 in Columbus, GA, the son of Marshall Edwin Talbot and Mildred Reese Talbot. Dan grew up in Columbus and graduated from Jordan Vocational High School. He took banking courses at Columbus Tech while working as a banker for CB&T. He was the owner of Sundance Mobile Homes and became the owner of Crystal Valley Homes, LLC. He was a member of the Georgia Manufactured Home Dealers Association.
Dan was a fun loving, compassionate, humble and hardworking man who loved his family deeply. One of his traits in life is that he was slow to anger and quick to forgive. Dan was an avid coin collector and a sports fan of the Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Falcons and Atlanta Braves. He enjoyed country music, Elvis, classic cars (especially his Mustang GT), Little Debbie treats and always a good steak.
Dan loved to watch comical shows on TV such as Carol Burnette, Tim Conway and Sanford and Son but most of all sharing funny stories about him and his cousins doing crazy things as kids. Dan taught his children the important values of life: loving your family unconditionally, strong work ethics and to never take your parents for granted. He loved spending time with his children, whether it be telling funny stories, showing them how to throw and catch a baseball or football or even how to swim.
Dan lived a full life; he was truly a loving son, father, grandfather and a selfless man who would bend over backwards to help anyone in need, whether it be a hot meal at his dinner table or just an ear to listen. He will be remembered as the most honorable man his family ever knew.
He was preceded in death by his parents; life companion, Son Min Hughes; and son-in-law, Charles Mitchell (Chuck) Tharpe.
Survivors include his four daughters, Alison (Billy) Clay, Clare (Gordon) Hurley, Rebecca Johnson, Laura (Jerry) Key; grandchildren, Caitlin (John) O’Rourke, Shelli Clay, Chloe Tharpe, Reece Tharpe, Ashton Johnson, Joelle Johnson, Raefe Johnson, Cole Collier, Laken Harper, Layce Harper and two great-grandsons, Elliot and Ethan O’Rourke.
