The service will present the United States Army to honor his service to his country, and will be officiated by Rev. Wayne Anthony of St. Peter Methodist Church.
Major Duane Powers dedicated 20 years of his life to the United States Army to serve and protect his country. Following his years of service, he was Vice President at SunTrust Bank for 17 years. Above all else, he loved his wife, Judy. Not only did Duane and Judy spend 30 years as faithful and loving husband and wife, but as best friends as well. He enjoyed life on Lake Harding at his cabin for many years. He loved his dogs, Joey and Buddy. He spent a significant amount of time spoiling Buddy and always putting him first. Duane was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan. The ideal evening for Duane was watching the game and eating his favorite food, wings and ribs accompanied with Corona with a twist of lime. He knew how to slow down and enjoy the beauty in life. He took much pride in his yard and flowers. Duane was obstinate and always giving orders, but family and friends knew they could rely on him to be there for them at any time. Duane believed in doing everything himself. He will be deeply missed by those who knew and loved him.
Duane is survived by his wife, Judy Holton Powers; Children, Joann Rimel (Ken), and Jason Horne (Ali); Grandchildren, Evan Johnson (Kristen) and Lauren Johnson; Great-Grandchildren, Laiken and Reese Johnson; and Sister, Darlene GeRue.
