Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, January 3, 2017 in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus, GA. with Reverend Jay Sorrell and Reverend Jimmy Little officiating. Interment to follow at Main Post Cemetery, Ft. Benning, GA. The family will receive friends Monday evening from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
Mrs. Sorrell was born in Barney, GA, on August 8, 1933 to the late John Arlie Wilkes and Etta Mae McCall Wilkes. Her husband, Thomas W. Sorrell also preceded her in death.
Mrs. Sorrell was a faithful member of the Sanctified Church and most recently Lighthouse Fellowship Ministries. “Miss Dot” has been with Country’s Barbecue on Mercury drive since it opened in 1975 and will continue to be the heart of Country’s.
She leaves behind to cherish her memory, daughters, Stephanie Wilden of Columbus, GA, and Desi Lanigan (Pete) of Ayr, Ontario, sons, Tommy Sorrell (Nancy) of Midland, GA, and Jay Sorrell (Pam) Danville, IL, 14 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren, two sisters, Betty Lou Allred and Madge Lawrence (Dick) and a brother, James Wilkes.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Columbus Hospice for the love, care and support that she received.
