Dorothy Elma McPhail

A graveside service to celebrate her life will be held 2:00 PM Wednesday, February 11, 2015 in Parkhill Cemetery with the Reverend Grace Burton-Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends & relatives Tuesday evening, from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, 31907.

Mrs. McPhail was born April 28, 1927 in Pensacola, FL, daughter of the late James Ira and Elma Wood Sumner. As a young woman, she worked as a nurse for Dr. Guy Dilliard. She then retired from J.C. Penny after many years of service and was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. McPhail was preceded in death by her husband, Robert S. McPhail and her dear companion, Bob Wilson.

Survivors include her children, Dorothy Kathleen McPhail McCord and her husband, Stan of Fairhope, AL, and Robert S. McPhail of Cary NC, her grandchildren, Charlotte McPhail and April McPhail Medley, and numerous beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Dot always saw the glass half full. She was a joy to spend time with. She loved birds & animals, flowers, music, books and travel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Paws Humane Animal Shelter, Columbus, Georgia or Salvation Army.
