Dorothy Whatley Martin, age 75, resident of Columbus, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2017 at Muscogee Manor Nursing Facility. Funeral services are scheduled at Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Friday, August 4, 2017, 11 a.m. with Reverend Billy Duncan officiating. Interment will follow at Riverdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends in the St. Elmo Room of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Thursday, August 3, 2017 from 5-7 p.m.
Mrs. Martin, daughter of the late Fred Whatley, Jr. and Dorothy Louise Morgan Whatley, was born July 25, 1942 in Columbus. She was as a Licensed Practical Nurse for over 20 years, serving at Doctor’s Hospital and many patients in the Columbus community. Mrs. Martin was a longtime member of Beallwood Baptist Church, loved spending time with family, and had a passion for cooking and trying new recipes.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Arcie Martin. Mrs. Martin is survived by four children, Cindy Chadick (David) of Wichita, Kansas, Jeff Brannon of San Juan Capistrano, California, Greg Brannon (Vickie) of Montgomery, Alabama, and Brian Brannon (Rachelle) of Columbus; eight grandchildren, Seth Chadick, Ethan Chadick, Jarrett Brannon, Joy Shannon (Marc), Peyton Brannon (Andrew), Julia Collazo (Victor), Emily Brannon, and Maddie Brannon; two great-grandchildren, Bentley and Melanie Collazo; one brother, Fred Whatley (Shirley) of Columbus; one sister, Connie Benton (David) of Pawley’s Island, South Carolina; several nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.
