Dorothy Jean Clemmons Casey, 92, of Columbus, GA, passed away on May 22, 2020. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 26, 2020 at 11:00AM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary with Dr. Kevin Calhoun officiating. Visitation will be held prior to the service at 10:00AM in the chapel. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jeffrey Mercer Hudson, Jr., Andrew Howard Carter, Jr., Wesley Joel Sappington, and Riggs Matthew Burnett.
She was born on December 11, 1927 to the late Oliver Clemmons and Doris Glass Morgan. Dorothy married the love of her life, Clifford Howard Casey, on November 6, 1947 at Hamp Stevens Methodist Church, where pastor George Erwin officiated, spending many cherished years together before his passing. She was employed by Baird Realty, Columbus Housing Authority, Charter Accounting and FEMA where she worked the 9-11 disaster for seven weeks as well as other disasters that have taken place. Mrs. Casey had a strong faith base at The Church of the Holy Family where she was a member for many years. She served on numerous boards such as Teen Tavern, West GA Health Agency, Women’s Committee of Chamber of Commerce and the Mayor’s Committee. Mrs. Casey was also a member of Soroptimist Club of Columbus, Chattahoochee Business & Professional Club, and BETA Sigma Phi. Dorothy volunteered her time at St. Francis Hospital, The Medical Center and the River Center. She was honored with the Woman of Leadership award in 1970 and the Career Woman Award in 1972.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, Oliver Clemmons and Doris Glass Morgan; her husband, Clifford Howard Casey; and sisters, Eva Lois Davenport and Elaine Annette Taylor Gardner.
She is survived by her two daughters, Pamela Jean Carter (Donald), Janet Casey O’Neal; four grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth Hudson (Jeff), Andrew Howard Carter (Resa), Jennifer O’Neal Sappington (Rob), Jessica Lynne O’Neal Burnett (Jonathan); great-grandchildren, Ridley, Carter and Mercer Hudson, Andrew and Claire Carter, Wesley and Anna Sappington, Addison and Riggs Burnett; and brother, James Franklin Taylor (Ann) of Powder Springs, GA.
