Donald Wood Pope

Donald was married to Lynda Wiggins and together they called Columbus their home. Lieutenant Pope was a member of the Fraternal Order of Police (FOP), he retired from the Muscogee County Prison in February 2004. Donald enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching baseball and football, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife Lynda R. Pope; his children: Lacretia Pope (Cindy Bramel), Dee Elkins (Johnny), Jenifer Tant (Billy), and Dera Burkes (Billy); his grandchildren: Eric Baird, Michael Black, Crystal Elkins, Jess Elkins, Cody Tant, Faith Tant, Bailey Burkes, Sarah Pope, and Haley Burkes; eleven great grandchildren; siblings: Betty Traylor, Jimmie Townson, John Pope, and Jack Rodgers; and numerous other family members. He is preceded in death by his son, Don Pope, his parents Audrey and Elwood Pope; and his brother, Ronald Pope.

Visitation for family and friends will be held on Monday November 6, 2023 from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary 4071 Macon Road Columbus, Georgia 31907. A service to celebrate Donald’s life will follow the visitation at 3:00 PM with Pastor David Dollar officiating.
