A service to celebrate his life will be held on Tuesday, November 15, 2022 at 2:00 PM in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia. Family will visit with friends from 1:00 PM until time of the service at 2:00 PM. Burial will follow the service in Parkhill Cemetery.
Mr. Goodroe was born in Buena Vista, Georgia to the late Ouida Mae Hale Goodroe and Luther Albert Goodroe. He was married to Margaret Duff and together he and Margaret made Columbus, Georgia home. Mr. Goodroe worked for many years with Civil Service at Fort Benning, Georgia. Working his way up from a clerk typist to the Director position of the Directorate of Purchasing and Contracting. After his retirement from Civil Service, he worked with the Muscogee County Judicial System as a Court Mediator. He also ran a private consultation assisting small companies in the Columbus area. It was in his nature to help others. Neighbors counted on him for assistance with home repairs, just as family and friends counted on him for a sound word of trusted advice.
Mr. Goodroe was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother. He was Christian by faith. Mr. Goodroe was a longtime member of Wynnton United Methodist Church of Columbus, Georgia. He was a member of the Goodwill Sunday School Class and taught the class for several years. When he wasn’t working he enjoyed spending time with family and friends. Mr. Goodroe was known as a pool shark, he enjoyed playing a good game of pool and was known for his specialty of Snooker. He loved everything about cars, including working on them. He was an avid NASCAR fan and watched the races regularly. His shenanigans and jokes will be greatly missed. Mr. Goodroe was one of a kind, he will be forever in our hearts.
He leaves his loving memory to be cherished by his loving wife Margaret Duff Goodroe; his daughters Delilah Hardin and Kim (Marc) Barrera; granddaughter, Miranda (Teddy) Affleck; grandson Jon-David Ridgen; great granddaughter Kiersten Affleck; great grandson Henry Affleck; brother Stanley (Catherine) Goodroe; and numerous other family members.
