Funeral services, officiated by Dr. John Fugh, will be held on Friday, June 28, 2024 at 11 AM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA, with visitation one hour before the service. A private entombment for the family will follow at the Chapel of the Pines Mausoleum at Parkhill Cemetery.
Donnie was born on September 11, 1939, to his loving parents the late Curtis Edwin Baggett and Willie Matilda Lee Baggett. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 41 years, Maudie Simpson Baggett; his daughter, Courtney Reilly Potthoff (Kevin) of Eufaula, AL; and his stepdaughter, Wendy Gardner Harrison (Bradley) of Columbus, GA. He is survived by his two sisters, Joy Baggett Mcquagg and Cheryl Baggett Ford, and his brother, William Baggett. He is also survived by his three daughters, Cindy Barr of Phenix City, AL; Dee Evans (Don) of Pine Mountain, GA; and Colette Barricks (Eric) of Westerville, OH; and two stepdaughters, Jennifer Gardner Wynn (Philip) and Amy Gardner Mobley (Richard) of Columbus, GA. Additionally, he leaves behind nine grandchildren: Brittany and SGT James Harrison, Reniker and Ellis Nobes, Trey and Gardner Mobley, Ashley Barricks, Reilly and Reid Potthoff and four great grandchildren.
Raised in Columbus, GA he attended St. Elmo Elementary School, Columbus High School and attended Columbus State and the University of Georgia. Donnie was dedicated to his family and began his career working for his father in the family's appliance stores, Seban.
Donnie’s career later shifted to real estate in 1978 until 2023 (45 years) where he focused on selling homes, land and commercial investment properties. Earning his graduate of real estate (GRI) designation and his teaching and training certificate in 1997. Donnie received numerous awards throughout his real estate career and was a life member of the Million Dollar Club (now the Circle of Excellence) and served on the Commercial committee, REACH (Realtors Extending A Caring Hand) committee and Education committee of the Columbus Board of Realtors. When not working, Donnie loved to travel, taking numerous trips around the world, but most cherished his time at the family’s cabin in Beulah, Alabama or condo in Panama City Beach in Florida.
Donnie was a devoted member of St. Paul Methodist Church and First Baptist Church, where he attended and served on various committees with his wife, Maudie.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the wonderful caregivers who lovingly cared for Donnie in his final months alongside those with Empyrean Hospice and the Oaks at Grove Park.
