She was born in Kinston, Alabama October 9, 1944, to the late Cubia Dean Nobles Helms and Maxwell L. Helms, Sr. She was a 1962 graduate of Jordan Vocational High School. Diane loved her family and her grandchildren immensely. She enjoyed reading, working crossword puzzles, and taking care of her dog Bubba. Diane took photos on all occasions to have for years to come. She liked going on beach trips with her classmates from Jordan Vocational High School. Diane was Christian by faith and was a member of St. Thomas Episcopal Church in Columbus. She was known for her infectious laugh and always ready to have a good time. Diane will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Cubia Dean and Maxwell L. Helms, Sr., and her brother, Mike Helms.
She leaves her loving memory to be cherished by her sons: William (Lisa) Dekle and Geoffrey Dekle (Heidi Fischler); her beloved grandchildren: Amanda (Paul) Horne, Bryan (Jessica) Dekle, Roxanne Dekle, Maxwell Dekle, Natalie Dekle, James (Amanda) Archer and Evans Archer; her beloved six great grandchildren; her brother, Max Helms, Jr. and her sister, Pam Jones; and numerous other family members and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday September 10, 2022 at 11:00 AM with Dr. Don Wilhite officiating in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd Columbus, Georgia 31907. Family will visit with friends one hour prior to the service from 10:00 AM until 11:00 AM. Burial will be in Parkhill Cemetery.
