SSG (Ret) David Lee Wood, age 73, of Columbus, GA, passed away on May 3, 2020. In keeping with efforts to assure the safety and health of our community during the current virus pandemic, the family will hold a private service.
David was born on October 30, 1946, in Wichita, Kansas, the son of Lee Olan Wood and Mary Penner Wood. David married the love of his life, Patricia A. Brown, in Colorado Springs, CO, on September 2, 1977; they have three daughters.
David was a member of the U.S Army, he served tours in Vietnam, and received several awards for his service. He retired after 23 years of service to our country here in Columbus. He then was employed as a bus driver for the Muscogee County School District, and he retired after 20 years of driving. For many years David and Patricia’s family attended North Highland Assembly of God Church. David was gentle natured, he was loving and caring, and often thought of others. He enjoyed people, being active, and in living your best life. What he loved, was his family and spending time with them, whether it was watching funny movies, visiting with one another or watching sports, time together was always a great investment.
Survivors include his wife, Patricia; three daughters, Anne Eaves, Kim Riley, and Denise Ware; grandchildren, Dakota Sutherland, Brittany Landenburg, Jayme Eicher, Lily Riley and Nevaeh Riley; great-grandchildren, Colson, Scarlett, Ryker Landenburg, Mateo Eicher; and many other distant family members and friends of the family that will cherish his memory.
