David Ronald Self, 51, passed away Thursday, September 20, 2018. He was a resident of Auburn, Alabama. Services to celebrate his life will be held on Monday, September 24, 2018, in Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia, at 11:00 a.m. (EST). Ricky Lip will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday, September 23, 2018 from 3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. (EST) at Striffler-Hamby.
Mr. Self was born Sept. 27, 1966, in Columbus, Georgia, son of James Ronald and Margaret Self. He was a graduate of Manchester High School, Manchester Georgia. After high school, David worked several jobs, mostly in management roles. He was very versatile and could adapt too many different styles of work. His longest employment was for Home Depot, where he became an assistant manager. Later, he decided it was time to pursue his real passion, which was the funeral business. David was currently employed with Leak Memory Chapel in Montgomery, Alabama, as a Funeral Director Apprentice.
David had a multitude of things he loved doing. He was an excellent cook and baker, and loved making floral arrangements and ceramics. He was also an accomplished photographer and filled every room in his home with mementoes. David enjoyed playing the piano, and he loved playing practical jokes and laughing with his friends. He was of the Baptist faith.
His mother, Margaret Self and a sister, Richa Self, preceded David in death. Mr. Self is survived by his partner, John Carvalho; his father, Ronald Self; a brother, Randall Keith Self; his twin brother, James Rodney Self; John’s sister, Anna; nieces and nephews: Taylor Brooke Phillips (Kyle),Kaylin Riccardino-Moore (Sean), James Ryan Self, Bryanna Nicole Self, Jacy Sokanon Self, and Gracie Annette Self; and his beloved “boys,” Skip and Chewie.
