David Peters, age 71, resident of Waverly Hall, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, December 22, 2018 at Piedmont Columbus Midtown Medical Center. Funeral services are scheduled at Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Thursday, December 27, 2018, 3 p.m. with Reverend Mike Reeves officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service on Thursday, December 27, 2018 from 2-3 p.m.
Mr. Peters, son of Nell Welker Peters and the late Meredith Morris Peters, was born August 9, 1947 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was Methodist by faith and a member of the Georgia-Alabama Bass Club. Mr. Peters was a painter, starting at age 16, and in 1973 he began his business, Unique Paint Company, Inc. He was a very happy and positive man, believed in discipline, hard work, and always demonstrated tough love. A man who loved to hunt and fish and pull jokes on his family. Mr. Peters will always be remembered as a conscientious teacher, a helpful person to everyone, and a perfectionist.
He is survived by his wife of 34 years, Cathy Peters of Waverly Hall, Georgia; mother, Nell Welker Vannoy of Columbus; two daughters, Christi Shanafelt and her husband Chris of Stow, Ohio and Heidi Peters of Waverly Hall, Georgia; one son, David B. Peters of Columbus; one brother, Bobby G. Peters of Columbus; one sister, Deborah Peters of Waverly Hall, Georgia; four grandchildren, Tyler Griffiths, Shayna Belcher, Levi Whitten, and Natalie Shanafelt; one great-grandson, Meredith Hayes Smith; many other relatives and friends.
