Daniel Foster

Ellerslie, Georgia- Daniel Foster, age 77, resident of Ellerslie, Georgia, died on Monday, March 4, 2013 at Columbus Hospice House. Funeral services are scheduled at the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus on Thursday, March 7, 2013, 11 a.m. with Reverend Mark Sasser officiating. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday, March 6, 2013 from 5-7 p.m.

Mr. Foster, son of the late Douglas Lee Foster and Hattie Mae Wheelis Foster, was born July 22, 1935 in Columbus, Georgia. He was a veteran and served his country honorably in the U.S. Air Force. After leaving the military, he began working in Civil Service at Fort Benning and faithfully served for over 39 years until his retirement. Mr. Foster was one of the original volunteer fireman with the Ellerslie Voluntary Fire Department. He was also an active member of East Highland United Methodist Church; member of the Alcazar Shriners; Scottish Rites; Masonic Grand Lodge of Georgia #144; and American Legion, Post #323.

Mr. Foster was preceded in death by a son, Kevin Joe Foster and also a sister, Kathryn "Kay" Foster. He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Theatis "Jo" Foster of Ellerslie, Georgia; one son, Rory Foster and his fiance' Joy of Waverly Hall, Georgia; five sisters, Martha Jones and her husband Odell of Springfield, Missouri, Patricia Tompkins of Midland, Georgia, Myra Higginbotham and her husband Randy of Fortson, Georgia, Ruth Armont and her husband Bob of Springfield, Missouri, and Rebecca Allen of Columbus; two brothers, Douglas Foster, Jr. and his wife Becky of Smiths Station, Alabama and David Foster and his wife Linda of Americus, Georgia; daughter-in-law, Stephanie Ritch and her husband Jeff of Gardendale, Alabama; two grandchildren, Dakota Foster and Noah Foster also of Gardendale, Alabama; other relatives and friends.
