Curtis O’Neal Thompson, 85, of Columbus, Georgia passed away early Saturday morning August 24, 2019. He was born in Dadeville, Alabama on September 5, 1933 to the late William W. Thompson and Minnie Lee Watkins Thompson.
Curtis was married to the late Mary Joyce Smith Thompson. They lived in Columbus raising two children, Nancy and William. Curtis was retired from Colonial Bakery Company; most of his coworkers at Colonial knew him as “Pea Vine”. After his retirement, Curtis enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening and enjoying the great outdoors.
He leaves his loving memory to be cherished by his daughter, Nancy Rodgers and her husband Larry Rodgers; his son, William Thompson; his grandchildren: Elizabeth Coriano (Luis), David Rodgers, Steven Thompson, Phillip Thompson (Holly), and Joseph Thompson (Beth); five great grandchildren; his brothers: William Thompson and Jim Thompson and sister, Judy Aguilar.
Curtis was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife, Joyce; his sisters, Martha Barnes; sister-in-law Betty Thompson.
A visitation for family and friends will be held Tuesday, August 27, 2019 from 11:30 AM until 12:30 PM in the St. Elmo Room of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Rd, Columbus, Georgia 31907. A procession following to Parkhill Cemetery for a graveside service to celebrate Curtis’ Life at 1:00 PM with Reverend David Rathel officiating.
