Clarence J. Smith, 82, of Columbus, Georgia, passed away on Monday, January 31, 2022. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, February 5, 2022 at 11:00 a.m. in the Edgewood Hall Chapel at Striffler-Hamby with visitation one hour prior; burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery, Waverly Hall.
Clarence was born on March 14, 1939, in Fort Benning, Georgia; the son of James Henry Smith and Gladys Chalkley House. Clarence attended Tillinghurst School. He joined the U.S. Air Force in 1956 where he served for 4 years. He was a member of Gentian Baptist Church for many years. He loved reading his bible, witnessing and helping others. Clarence also loved engineering and design as well as woodworking. Clarence married Jeannette Mitchell, they were married for 51 years until her passing, he later married Betty Nixon, and they were married for 6 years. After he separated from the Air Force, Clarence went to work for Flavorich Dairies and later Litho-Krome of Columbus where he worked until his retirement.
Clarence is preceded in death by: his parents, Gladys Chalkley House and James Henry Smith; his wife, Jeannette, his second wife, Betty; and his two brothers, Pete House and Riley Snow.
Survivors include: his Daughter, Barbara Clark (Chris) Phenix City, Son, Robert Smith (Kim) Columbus, Brother, James Smith (Linda) Columbus, Sister, Dolly Kent, Texas, Sister, Mary John Stevens (Linwood) Texas, Stepsons, Gordan Chalkley, Alaska, Tim Hurst, Columbus, Step-Daughters, Tina Peoples, Columbus, Diane Davis, Columbus, Rene Griffin, Columbus, Grandsons, Robbie Smith, Cameron Smith, Nic Clark, Andy Clark and 5 great-grandchildren, Oliver Smith, Shelby Clark, Jacob Clark, Charlotte Clark, Carolyn Clark.
