Charles “Chuck” R. Goodrum III, 59, of Columbus, GA passed away Thursday, January 28, 2016 at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his loving family and friends. Funeral service will be held Friday, February 5, 2016 at 11:00 AM in the Edgewood Hall of Striffler-Hamby with Reverend David Hunt officiating. Burial will follow at Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends Thursday evening from 5:00-7:00 PM in the Mill Room.
Chuck, son of the late Geraldine H. and Charles R. Goodrum, Jr., was born February 17, 1956 in Columbus, GA. He was a graduate of Baker High School. Chuck was a Telecommunications Engineer for over 40 years and owned his own business, Business Telephone Services, for over 25 years. He had a passion for barbequing and was famous for his ribs. For over 20 years, he was an active pilot, being affectionately known by many as the Mayor of the Columbus Airport. Chuck loved spending time with his family and friends, riding his Harley Davidson and flying RC airplanes. He was a member of EAA, AOPA, Academy of Model Aeronauts and the Senior Pattern Association. Chuck was on the planning committee for the Thunder in the Valley Air Show. He previously flew the blimp at the Cottonmouths’ games and was an Instrument Rated Private Pilot. Chuck never met a stranger.
Chuck is survived by his loving wife of 21 years, Sherry B. Goodrum of Columbus, GA; precious daughter, Lauren W. Goodrum of Columbus, GA; beloved fur babies Sam, Roxie, Coco, Brody and Misty; brother Jeffrey H. Goodrum; mother-in-law Carol Barber (Michael Noe); father-in-law Kenneth Barber (Paddy); brother-in-law Scott Barber (Laura); nephew Liam Barber; several cousins and many friends.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Easter Seals West Georgia, Inc. or PAWS Humane, Inc. in honor of Chuck Goodrum.
