Charles William Wood

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, October 19, 2011 in the Chapel of Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, GA. 31907 with Reverend Billy Gross officiating. Interment to follow in Parkhill Cemetery. The family will receive friends this evening from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mr. Wood was born on October 11, 1929 in Martinsburg, West Virginia to the late Edward S. Wood and Virginia K. Wood, other than his parents his sister, Marie Wood Price preceded him in death. Mr. Wood was educated in Berkeley County schools and graduating from Martinsburg High School. He served in the U.S. Army at Ft. Benning, GA. and Dakow, Germany. He retired in 1986 from E.I. DuPont Company with 35 ½ years of service.

Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Barbara A. Wood of Columbus, four daughters, Rebecca Whittington and husband Wayne of Martinsburg WV, Brenda Timoney of Bedford, PA, Fay Jainniney and husband Ronnie of Martinsburg, WV and Kay Byers of Martinsburg, WV, one son, Michael Wood and wife Sheri of Columbus, 11 grandchildren, Heidi Whittington Shank and Husband Joel, Amanda Whittington, Lauren, Sarah and CJ Timoney, Kayla and Bethanie Jainniney, Rhonda Byers, Erin, Leslie and Charlie Wood, two great grandchildren, Haylie and Abbi Shank.
