Visitation is scheduled from 5-7 pm, on Monday, August 29, 2016 at St. Elmo Room of Striffler Hamby Mortuary, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 am, on Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at Edgewood Hall of Striffler Hamby, 4071 Macon Road, Columbus, Georgia with Reverend Jimmy Pruitt officiating.
Graveside Services will follow at 2:00 pm, at Restlawn Memory Gardens, 2098 Mooty Bridge Road in Lagrange, Georgia.
Mr. Milam was born March 19, 1940 in Lagrange, Georgia, and is the son of the late Charles Hunter Milam Jr. and the late Gladys Lucille Whitley Milam.
Mr. Milam is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Janice Elaine Sayers, of Lagrange, Georgia, and two loving daughters Kandi Crapps (Chris) of Columbus, Ga and Kristi Ludy (Keith) of Midland, Ga. He is, also, survived by one brother, Jud Milam, of Lagrange, Ga; four grandchildren, Kaycee and Chase Crapps of Columbus, Ga. and Savannah and Faith Ludy of Midland, Ga., and one niece, Debbie Wade (Richard), and one great niece Cassie Wade, of Lagrange, Ga.
Mr. Milam graduated from Lagrange High School in 1958. He graduated from Columbus College with a Master’s Degree in Music Education.
Mr. Milam was a band director for the Muscogee County School District for 32 years. He was a member of the Muscogee Retired Educators Association and the Georgia Retired Educators Association. His love for music extended from playing the drums in his high school band, to the Drumming Bugle Corp, The Rockin Rebels, the Stevens Family Gospel Group, to teaching in over 40 schools over his years of teaching.
Mr. Milam loved woodworking, gardening, and taking his family to the mountains. He is remembered as being a wonderful Dad to his two daughters and a loving “Poppy” to his four grandchildren.
