A Rosary and visitation will be held at Striffler-Hamby, Columbus on Tuesday, April 4, 2023, 6:00 p.m.
Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Geri Davis.
He is survived by his beloved wife Julie Deanne Davenport Davis, sons Benjamin Charles Davis and Jonathan Winslow Davis; three siblings - Scott Charles Davis (Capri); Danni Davis Harris (William); Aimee Elizabeth Davis (Jennifer); mother-in-law Nancy Davenport, father-in-law James Davenport (Betty), and sister-in-law Donna Hilliard (Robert). He was also blessed with special nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and close friends.
Chuck was born April 28, 1968, in Columbus, Georgia. Through the family’s deep Catholic faith, he was a lifelong member of St. Anne Catholic Church and attended St. Anne School and Pacelli High School, graduating in 1986. He then started the next chapter of his life at Auburn University. There Chuck found his rhythm among his fellow brothers at the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity, where his peers selected him to serve as Chaplin. Chuck was blessed as a freshman, because that’s when he met the love of his life, Julie, and their love story began. After graduating with a BA in Political Science in 1990, Chuck continued his education at the University of Alabama earning an MPA in 1992.
Chuck returned home to Columbus to take a position with Interstate Johnson Lane. He quickly went from cold calling phone lists to being the “guy to talk to about investments” and was offered a key position at First Union Bank. Chuck was building relationships with clients that would turn into lifelong friendships.
In August of 1993, Chuck and Julie were married. Together they had two children: Ben and Jonny who inherited their father’s sense of humor and generous heart.
Chuck’s father, Charles, saw his son’s success and asked Chuck to join him at his Allstate agency to lead investment services. For the next 20 years, Chuck created and managed one of the most successful investment portfolios for the company. After his father passed away in 2015, Chuck took over the family-owned agency and built a reputation and trust with customers that exceeded company goals annually. Customers were indeed “in good hands” with Chuck.
Chuck loved supporting Columbus with sponsorships and community involvement. He loved his weekly North Columbus Rotary Club meetings where he served a term as President. He was often seen volunteering at St. Anne-Pacelli Catholic School with Julie.
Chuck’s biggest investment, however, was with his wife for almost 30 years and two sons. He was always present at the boys’ many sporting events and especially enjoyed coaching them in recreational football. Family vacations and frequent trips to the beach made Chuck the happiest.
Chuck was very passionate about his Auburn Tigers and playing the double zeros at the roulette table. He enjoyed playing tennis and competed in several state tournaments with his teams from Green Island Country Club. He loved all kinds of music. Chuck taught himself to play the guitar at an early age and loved playing with the band. Chuck claimed he was a rockstar first, then an investment advisor.
As your friend, Chuck was always the last one to leave your wedding or the first one to stand and give the blessing or toast at your birthday party. He loved deeply and his hugs were heart felt and never forgotten. He always looked you in the eyes and said, “I love you” and you knew he meant it. Chuck was devoted to his faith, family, and friendships.
He was the son, brother, husband, father, uncle and friend we all were blessed to have, if only for a short time. His investment in each of us is his greatest legacy.
We love you, Chuck.
