Cecil Benjamin Miles Sr., 84, of Augusta, Georgia, passed away peacefully on July 18, 2022 in Jacksonville, Florida with family members by his side. Cecil was a devoted public servant. In 1990, Cecil retired as the Signal Corp Regimental Command Sergeant Major at Fort Gordon after 35 years of service in the U.S. Army. His military awards include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Master Parachutist badge, Ranger tab among many others. Cecil was active in his church, Hephzibah United Methodist as well as Release Time Bible Education in local schools. He was both a Mason and Shriner. Cecil was also a gallery guard at the Masters for 25 years.
Cecil was also a 1956 graduate of Jordan Vocational High School as well as an instructor at the Infantry School in the 1970’s.
Cecil is predeceased by his first wife, Susan Ann Meadows Miles, his mother Annie Belle Miles Yates, his two brothers Kenneth Frazier and Travis Yates and is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, June Childs Miles, formerly of Manchester, Georgia, sister Faye Laughlin of Lake City, Florida, sister Lynn Yates of Haines City, Florida, daughter Karen Jarrell (Scott) of Plano, Texas, son Ben Miles (Missy) of Jacksonville, Florida, 5 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
There will be a viewing on Tuesday, August 2, 2022 from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary in Columbus Georgia. A graveside service with military honors will be at the Ft. Benning Cemetery on Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at 10:00 AM.
