Bruce Carlin Zimmerman, 75, of Columbus, GA, passed away August 21, 2017. Bruce was born November 2, 1941 in Schofield Barracks, Hawaii. He was still in the hospital during the bombing of Pearl Harbor. He was an MP in the army from 1958-1966 and worked at the post office from 1967-1974. Bruce had a bachelor’s, a master’s, and a Specialist degree in teaching. He started teaching in 1975 at Morningside Elementary School, and ended his teaching career 35 years later at Northside High School. He loved teaching, and continued to substitute teach for 2 more years. He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for many years.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Carole Zimmerman of Columbus, Georgia, two sons, Roger Zimmerman and his wife Janice of Richland, GA, and Michael Zimmerman of Columbus, GA, two daughters, Amy Brazier and her husband Joel Brazier of Richland, GA and Kathryn Anderson and her husband Lance Anderson of Columbus, GA. He is also survived by grandchildren, Charlie Zimmerman, Robbie Zimmerman, April Hilliard, Michelle Zimmerman, and Jacob Baxter, and great grandchildren, Chloe Zimmerman, Carole Zimmerman, Eva Zimmerman, and Hadley Hilliard. He truly loved his wife, children, and grandchildren.
He was a big Georgia Tech fan and an avid collector of Coca-Cola memorabilia. He has many friends and family that will miss him dearly.
