SFC (Ret) Bobby L. Johnston, age 83, of Columbus, Georgia passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2023. A visitation for the family and friends of Bobby will be held on Friday, February 4, 2023 at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary from 5:00 until 7:00 pm. Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2023 at 11:00 am. Interment will follow at Parkhill Cemetery.
Bobby was born in Pathfork, Kentucky, on March 22, 1939; the son of Joe Johnston and Lassie Johnson Johnston. Bobby was raised in Kentucky, after graduating from High School, Bobby joined the U.S. Army, at the age of 19. He served our country for 20 years with a tour in Vietnam. Bobby married the love of his life, Virginia Brescia on June 18, 1963. Bobby came from a big family, after his service he was able to graduate from Troy State University in 1983, the first in his family to do so, he was grateful to have done so. Bobby was a Master Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite and the Midland Lodge and a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Bobby enjoyed cooking, landscaping and classic country music. These were even more enjoyable when he was with his family, which he loved.
Bobby is preceded in death by: his parents; brothers, Jerry Johnston, Eddie Johnston, and O’Neil Johnston.
Survivors include: his wife, Virginia; daughter, Julie J. (Jeff) Holloway; his grandchildren, Jessica, Leslie, Aiden, Kyle, Victoria; and his brothers and sisters, Sherry Maxwell, Joyce (Don) Schaub, Jean Porter, Jan Miller, Wayne (Glenda) Johnston; Bill (Margie) Johnston; Mack (Jane) Johnston; and Jawanna (Steve) Jackson.
