Those who were fortunate enough to know Bennie (aka Ray) will tell you he was a very compassionate and giving person who went out of his way to be kind to others. The devotion he had for his family was always top priority, and he would go to any length for their care and happiness. Bennie would always find a way to lighten the moment, even when not feeling well, by making a quick joke or saying something to make you smile. Bennie always made sure those around him who were kind knew they were appreciated.
Bennie was a lifelong resident of Columbus. He served in the US Army in the Vietnam war and was awarded ‘The Army Commendation Medal’ for his exceptionally meritorious service. In addition, he received the Sharpshooter Badge (M-16 Rifle), National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal w/ 60 Device, and Air Medal. He was a member of the local VFW. After serving in the US Army, Bennie had a career in the textile industry.
A burial service to honor Bennie will be held graveside in Parkhill Cemetery on Monday January 6, 2025.
Remaining to cherish Bennie’s memory are his sons, Bennie R. Baggett II, Jamie C. Baggett and his wife Michael Jo, Jason R. Baggett, all of Columbus, sister Debbie O'Neal and her husband Ben of Newnan GA, a brother Bobby Baggett of Smiths AL, a brother, Richard Baggett and his wife Brenda of Columbus, and several grandchildren.
Preceding Bennie in death are his father, James E. Baggett, his mother, Edna C. Baggett, his wife, Jeanette L. Dipietro Baggett, and his son Joshua B. Baggett.
