Barbara Broda Star, 81, longtime resident of Columbus, GA, passed away on Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Midtown Medical Center. Funeral services will be held Friday, November 13, 2015 at 10:30am at Temple Israel, 1617 Wildwood Ave.
Mrs. Star was born in Columbus, GA in 1934. After graduating from Columbus High School and Goucher College in Baltimore, MD, she taught 3rd grade at schools in Seattle, WA and Memphis, TN while her husband completed his medical training. Mrs. Star returned to Columbus in 1965. She was a longtime member of Temple Israel and served as president of its Jewish Ladies Aid Society for multiple terms. Mrs. Star also participated in the Century Club for over 50 years and served as its President. She was very active at the Columbus Museum and worked as a volunteer docent for many years.
Mrs. Star was happily married to Dr. Franklin for over 57 years. She loved playing bridge with him and spending summers together at their vacation home in Sapphire, NC. She also loved to see her children and grandchildren, traveling to visit them frequently and going on several family vacations. For the past 7 years, she was an active and social resident at Spring Harbor community.
Mrs. Star is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Franklin; 3 sons Doug, Jon (Heather Hill), and Frank Jr. (Mindy); 7 grandchildren (Noah, Leah, Nora, Ashley, Paige, Nathan, and Seth); a sister-in-law Kay Broda; and numerous nieces and nephews.
