Barbara lived in Columbus and attended Sherwood United Methodist Church. She graduated from Columbus High School in 1964 and married Bill Holton later that year. She graduated from Columbus State University and went on to teach elementary school for the next thirty-seven years. During that time, the Holton family moved from Columbus to Alabama, Texas, Nevada, Missouri, and then, in 1989, finally back to Georgia to stay. There she continued teaching in the Dekalb County School System. Her love was to teach fifth grade, but she eventually became an Assistant Principal and then an interim Principal. During that time she found the energy to raise two children, Susan and Matt.
Barbara departed this life on Wednesday, January 15, 2020. She was preceded in death by her mother and father and brother, William Guy Jr.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughter Susan Baucom (Mark), son, Matt Holton (Emily), sister-in-law, Darlene Harbuck, nephew Guy Harbuck, niece Beth Stogsdill, sister-in-law Judy Powers (Duane), nephew Jason Horne, nephew Eddy Mansfield, five grandchildren: Sean, Ansley, Kayla, Jacob, and Lucas, and a host of other relatives and friends.
