A memorial service to celebrate Bam’s life will be held at 3:00PM Thursday, July 20, 2023 in Edgewood Hall at Striffler-Hamby Mortuary, Columbus, GA. The family will greet friends and family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Bam was born December 27, 1971 in Albany, GA, son of the late John Ross Barnes, Sr., and Janie Smith Barnes. He graduated from Albany High School and Columbus State University. Bam worked for the Harris County School District as a 6th grade History teacher at Creekside Middle School. He had a special way of communicating with his students, and created special bonds that will last a lifetime. Bam was also a diehard Dawg fan. He loved spending Saturdays in the fall with his friends and family cheering the Dawgs football team on to victory. Most of all, Bam was a loving and caring dad. His three daughters were his whole world. He always made sure their needs were his main priority. Bam loved spending time with them and supporting their passion for dance. He was part of the “Prop Mafia”, a group of dad’s responsible for many things, but mainly moving props on and off stage. Bam enjoyed his time “Out Back” with the Mafia. We will miss his presence daily, but his down to earth spirit will live forever in our lives.
In addition to his parents, Bam was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Paul Barnes, and William Randall Barnes.
Survivors include his three daughters, Madison, Karsyn, and Emily Barnes, and their mother, Gabbi Picardo; one sister, Debra Allen (Floyd); one brother, John Ross Barnes, Jr. (Lois); former in-laws, Lyndon and Dr. Marguerite Jones; former brother in law, Griffin Jones; one aunt, Emily Faye Barnes; Best friends, Rodney and Melanie Newberry, and Rick Taylor; his Prop Mafia Buddies; many nieces, nephews, other family members and friends.
