Archie was born in Groton, Massachusetts on July 3, 1961. He spent his formative years traveling with his family to various military bases before graduating from Balboa High School in Panama Canal Zone in 1979. He joined the Army immediately after graduation and served his country as a Medical Specialist in the 82nd Airborne. At the time of his death, he was employed by Alia East Incorporated.
Archie’s love of sports and playing chess was legendary among his family. He was a huge fan of the New York Yankees. He also loved watching basketball and looked forward to the NBA playoffs every year. His love of basketball was only intensified when his only son, Arch Jr. earned a four-year basketball scholarship to Newberry College in Brookline, Massachusetts. Archie was also a music lover. He enjoyed listening to jazz and 70’s R & B and he found extreme happiness in spending time with his large and extended family.
Archie’s greatest joy was spending time talking to or about his only child, Arch Jr., and his two grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his father, Cornelius Mitchell Jr., his mother, Nobuko Miyazaki Domingue, and his brother Ronald Mitchell. He is survived by his son Arch (Crystal) Mitchell Jr., granddaughter, Brielle Renea Mitchell, and grandson, Bryant Olson Mitchell of Nashua, NH; as well as siblings, Mary (Jose) DaPonte’ of Columbus, GA, Cornelius (Dorrie) Mitchell III of Salem, AL, Viola (Paul) Lee of Acworth, GA, Ruth Fuentes of Chandler, AZ, and Naomi Dorsey of Columbus, GA, and a host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.
