Andy attended Phillips Academy Andover and continued his education at Princeton University, where he was a member of the Varsity soccer team and graduated magna cum laude. On June 27, 1970, he married the love of his life, Barbara Janes Marks, and the two served as role models for a Christ-centered marriage to their children, grandchildren, and all who knew them.
In 1981, the Marks family moved from Pittsburgh to Columbus as Andy came to work for The Hardaway Construction Company. He joined TSYS in 1993 and advanced to Group Executive, retiring in 2008.
Andy was committed to and served the Columbus community in various roles, including the Chamber of Commerce, Leadership Columbus, Leadership Georgia, Rotary Club, and the Columbus Regional Health Foundation Board. As a dedicated member of St. Luke Church for more than 35 years, he served as Finance Committee Chair and Church Administrator, yet he felt one of his greatest contributions was his service to St. Luke School. He served on the St. Luke School Board of Trustees, as Board Controller and longtime chair of the school Finance Committee.
No role was more important to him than the role of husband, father and grandfather. Andy is survived by his adored wife, Barbara Janes Marks; their children, Brandwyn “Buffy” Marks Swinehart (Steven), Ashley Marks Beard (Morgan), and Andrew “Andy” Wilson Marks, Jr. (Lindsay); and grandsons Steven Trent Swinehart, Jr., James Talmadge Swinehart, Alexander James Beard, Andrew Wilson “Will” Marks III, and Mason Guy Marks and preceded in death by granddaughter Elle Joyce Marks.
Funeral services will be held at 10 AM, Saturday April 27, 2024, at St. Luke Church. Gifts to honor Andy’s life may be made to St. Luke Church, 1104 Second Avenue, Columbus, GA 31901 or St. Luke School, 300 11th Street, Columbus, GA 31901.
