William Pete Franklin Tapp Jr.

COLUMBIA - Memorial service for William Franklin “Pete” Tapp, Jr., 87, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 3, 2014, at Shandon Presbyterian Church after a private burial. The family will receive friends at the church following the service in Davis Hall. Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel, is assisting the family. Mr. Tapp died Friday, October 31, 2014. Born in Columbia, he was a son of the late William F. Tapp, Sr. and Beulah DuVal Tapp Finch. He was a 1943 graduate of Columbia High School, attended Clemson University, and graduated from the University of South Carolina where he was a member of the Sigma Nu Fraternity and later served in the U.S. Army and the U.S. Naval Reserve. Mr. Tapp was very active in the Columbia community; he was a member of the Columbia Rotary Club, served on the Chamber of Commerce; was active in the Downtown Association as well as many other civic and professional organizations. He was a member of Shandon Presbyterian Church where he served as Deacon and Elder. Pete was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. His gentle, kind spirit remains with all those who knew him. Surviving are his loving wife of over 60 years, Georgene Hallman Tapp; son, William F. Tapp, III “Billy” (Leslye) of Columbia; daughter, Georgene “Gena” Tapp Renfrow (Tom) of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Krystin Tapp Walker (Chris) of Beaufort, William F. Tapp, IV “Pete” of Columbia, Regan Tapp of Columbia, Cadet William Mitchell Renfrow of Colorado Springs, Colo.; great-granddaughter, Maggie Walker; brothers, Col. Richard Lee Tapp, Sr. (Shirley), Thomas T. Tapp both of Columbia; and sister, Marianna Finch of Birmingham, Ala. He was predeceased by a brother, Clayton E.
