William Lee Burley, Jr.

A family memorial service for William Lee Burley, Jr. 84, will be held at a later date at Shandon Presbyterian Church, conducted by the Reverend John Cook. Mr. Burley passed away on November 2, 2022. Born on April 13, 1938 in Fairfield County, he was the son of the late William Lee Burley and Thomasine Boulware Burley. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy Moore Burley, of 56 years; sister-in-law, Ann Burley; niece, Kelly Simo; nephew, Walker Burley (Kellie); and great nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, his sister, Mary Elizabeth Sturkie, and brothers, Marion Thomas Burley and Joel Daniel Burley.

Mr. Burley graduated from Monticello High School and attended Clemson College. He received an Associate Degree in Business from Palmer College. He retired from the SC Department of Revenue after 34 years of service. He also taught tax audit courses at Midlands Technical College. He was a longtime member of Salem Presbyterian Church in Monticello, SC and later became a member of Shandon Presbyterian Church in Columbia, SC. He was a member of the Columbia Museum of Art, SC State Museum, and a Workshop Theater Patron for many years. Mr. Burley was an avid Clemson football fan.
