WHITE ROCK – William F. “Bill” Baughman, Sr. boarded his heavenly flight Monday, June 11, 2012 to his eternal home to serve the King of Kings forever and forever. He was born November 2, 1934 to the late Harmon Babcock and Ora Lee Baughman.
Bill was affectionately known as “William of White Rock.” In the late 60’s, he was the dealer for Shell Oil at Bush River Road and I-26. He transferred across the street and operated the Phillips 66 at Bush River Road and the Phillips 66 at Broad River Road in the 70’s. In 1971, he employed the first female attendant in the area and this new concept made the pages of the Atlanta Journal. In his later years until retirement, he operated Baughman Auto and Tractor Repair in White Rock.
He is survived by Louise, his devoted wife of 58 years; son, William Frank Baughman, Jr., (Sharon); daughters, Melanie McLees (John), Cheryl Evans, Michelle Baughman (David) and sister, Beverly Brown (Brooks III). He was predeceased by a half-brother, Harmon (Jiggs) Baughman; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Bill was a member of Dutch Fork Baptist Church where services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012 with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, June 13, 2012 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel.
