COLUMBIA - Wayne Franklin Rush, 80, of Columbia, SC passed away January 1, 2016. A memorial service in celebration of his life will be held Friday, January 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Wayne was born in Greenwood, SC on October 4, 1935 to the late John Kirksey and Ethel Watson Rush. Wayne was a graduate of Greenwood High School and the University of South Carolina. He was an active supporter for many years of the Gamecocks academic and athletic programs. Upon graduation from USC, Wayne joined the United States Air Force where he was an Air Force navigator on fighter jets. After his military service ended, he returned to USC to attend Law School where he graduated cum laude. Wayne was on the staff and editorial board of the South Carolina Law Review. He worked in private and public practice for many years in the Columbia area including working with the State of South Carolina Budget & Control Board. During this time he met many long term friends and associates. Wayne was a great brother, uncle, and friend and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his sister, Opal Rush Anderson; nieces, Teresa Talley and Janet Callaway; nephews, Curt Anderson and Steve Anderson; three great nieces, three great nephews, and a great great niece and nephew. Memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
