Tao Gao

IRMO - Tao Gao, 42, departed from us far too soon on Friday, August 24, 2018. He will be remembered fondly for his enthusiasm for life and his great creativity. Tao had a knack for sweeping others off into adventures and laughter and stimulating conversation. As much as he enjoyed fun, he also enjoyed pondering the larger questions of life and continually sought opportunities to grow and evolve.

Tao graduated from Dreher High School and served in the United States Navy. Following Naval service, he earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from the University of South Carolina. He founded the web development company Live2Create Interactive, specializing in building web and social media platforms for small business and non-profit associations. Tao had recently returned to Columbia after spending several years living and working in China.

Tao is survived by his wife, Hui Wang; mother, Ling Gao; step-father, Pawel Mazur; step-sister, Maria Torres; and other extended family members.

Funeral services will be held Sunday, September 2, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

One of the last pieces of wisdom that Tao shared was, “Be kind and compassionate to others. We are all in this together. We need each other.”
