Silvana’s family immigrated to Canada when she was seven years old. At the age of 15, she was married and had three children by the time she was 20. Eight years later, she divorced, and raised three wonderful children with the help of her mother, all then living in Canada.
With a determination that would become legendary, Silvana studied law, despite already working three jobs. Occasionally her son Peter would go to class with her. Over the ensuing decades, Silvana put her wonderfully capable mind to various businesses, including a seafood market, a rug business, real estate, the stock market and gas stations. Failure was never an option.
Of course, the restaurant in Shandon is the crown jewel of a life magnificently lived. Opened in 2012, Arabesque allowed Silvana to be of service, with a full heart and her glorious cooking skills, to the entire Shandon community.
Silvana loved with no limits and was a mother to all. Her nieces and nephews were like children for her. She never stopped looking for ways to make everyone happy and refused to endure suffering around her. Her generosity knew no bounds. Her heart, no limits and her work ethic, no rest. She enjoyed life, people, good conversation, a good laugh and especially the many close friends she considered family.
She is survived by her children, Peter Yaghi, Hala Yaghi Deschamps, and Samira Yaghi El-Hage and her grandchildren, Brielle Deschamps and Olivia Davis Yaghi; mother, Samira Hanna; sister, Joumana Hanna (Joseph Chamoun); brothers, Jean Hanna and Toni Hanna. She was predeceased by her father, Georges Hanna and her brother, Elie Hanna.
She was much loved and will be greatly missed.
