Selma was born on February 22, 1937 in Wigstadtl, Czechoslovakia, the daughter of Leo and Anna Nitschmann.
She met her loving husband, George, in Kitzingen, Germany, where he promised to take her traveling. She enjoyed traveling with her husband, family and friends over the years. George and Selma had visited all 50 states during their marriage. In addition, they volunteered for over 25 years feeding the homeless through St. Vincent DePaul Society at St. Peter’s Basilica in Columbia.
Selma loved writing and wrote an autobiography of her life. She was always active and enjoyed long walks and swims almost daily. If she wasn’t on a walk or at the pool, she was in her yard tending her wonderful gardens. She devoted much of her time to her family and friends. She loved a celebration.
Selma was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, George F.; her sister, Gerda Fischer, her son-in-law, James M. Burrows III; and one grandchild, Michelle F. Burrows. Surviving are her daughters, Sonja Burrows, Debra Brooks, and Cynthia Gollach (Terry); four grandchildren, Dexter Brooks (Rebekah), Candace Churchwell, Daniela Cuddington (Stephen), and Margaret-Ann Dennis (Grant); and five great-grandchildren, D. Cadence Brooks, Caitlynn Churchwell, Matthew Churchwell, Anna Cuddington and James Cuddington; her nephew, Boris Fischer of Germany.
