A native of Frederick, MD, Scott was born on March 31, 1963, to Dr. Lloyd E. Taber and Patsy L. Taber and was baptized at the First Congregational Church in Neligh, Nebraska, his childhood home.
Scott was a quiet man with a sharp sense of humor whose actions often spoke louder than his words. He was most passionate about his work as a surgeon and cycling. But whether he was at the hospital or not, he always strived to help others. From a young age, Scott wanted to follow in his father’s footsteps as a veterinarian, but chose surgery instead to be in a “temperature controlled room” as he often said. Scott graduated from Creighton University and Medical School. He then completed his general surgery training under Dr. Hiram C. Polk at the University of Louisville in Kentucky.
The hole he has left in the medical community is vast. Many have described Scott as being not only a skilled surgeon, but also an excellent physician and teacher. He cared for his patients and co-workers beyond the operating room and was greatly admired for both his skill and compassion. Scott made several medical mission trips to Honduras.
Scott was most proud of his son, Alex, and being married to his loving wife, Betty. He spoke of them often to his patients, co-workers, and colleagues. When he was not working, his greatest passion was cycling with his friends at every opportunity.
Those left to cherish his memory, include his wife of nearly 30 years, Dr. Betty W. Joyce; son, Thomas Alexander “Alex” Taber; parents, Lloyd and Patsy; Brenda Adamson (Thane) Olivia, Cal, Owyn New River, AZ, Susan Tiefenthaler (Tony) Elena,Aiden Springview, NE ; and beloved four legged family members, Sophie, Buddy, and Max.
