She grew up in Lancaster, NY where she attended catholic schools. After graduating from Nursing School, she served in the US Army Nurse Corp from 1966-1968, obtaining the rank of Captain. Rose loved to travel working for the DOD as a nurse in places like Seattle, WA and Germany. The latter is where she started her large collections of Steins.
Finally, she settled in Columbia, SC in 1975 working for Dorn Veterans Hospital as a supervisor, educator and CNS of LTC until her retirement in 1995. She loved her patients and colleagues.
Rose was a daughter, sister, world traveler, Bridge enthusiast, golfer, photographer, painter, spirited speaker, educator, avid reader, dog lover, friend and mentor to many.
She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Edgar and Mary Tram Magee; a brother, Richard Magee; nephew, Richie Magee of Charleston, SC; and niece, Connie Decker of Lexington, NC. She is survived by two nieces; Cheryl Blackburn, Cathy Travis, her best friend since childhood; Annamarie Depalmo of NY, her Goddaughter; Roseann Was of NY; and other close friends.
Graveside services featuring military honors will be held 3:00 pm Thursday, August 31, 2023 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Rose’s memory to the Animal Rescue of one’s choice.
