COLUMBIA - Funeral services for Roland Franklin Meetze Jr., 78, will be held at 3:00 p.m. Wednesday, January 19, 2011, at Mt. Olive Lutheran Church with interment in the church cemetery. Rev. Paul Sizemore will conduct the service. The family will receive friends from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 18, 2011, at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel. Mr. Meetze was born June 18, 1932, in Lexington, SC and passed away on Friday, January 14, 2011. He was a son of the late Roland Franklin Meetze, Sr. and Birdie Idalia Kleckley Meetze. Mr. Meetze was a life-long member of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. He retired from the SC Army National Guard as a Master Sergeant with over 30 years of honorable service. He retired from Shealy’s Inc. of Columbia with over 40 years of service. Mr. Meetze was an avid outdoorsman, farmer and former member of Cooks Mountain Hunting Club and had a love for antique tractors, tractor pulls, and eating BBQ. He was currently the groundskeeper and custodian of Mt. Olive Lutheran Church. He cherished time spent with grandchildren, family, and close friends.
Mr. Meetze is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margaret M. Meetze of Columbia; daughters, Lynne Meetze Schultz of Columbia and Tammy Meetze Holden (Robert) of Atlanta, GA; grandchildren, Mandy Schultz and Jonathon Holden; sister, Yvonne (Clarence) Rodgers of Irmo; brother, Donald (Gloria) Meetze of Lexington; sister, Marilyn Brabham of Columbia and numerous brothers and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Joyce Lindler and brother-in-law, Jerry Brabham.
