Rochelle Price Alexander

COLUMBIA - Rochelle Price “Chelly” Alexander, died on April 19, 2017 from complications resulting from several strokes and diabetes. She was born Mary Rochelle Price on February 19, 1941 in Monticello, AR to the late Samuel William Price and Alice Bailey Price. Her family moved to Davidson, NC and then to the Dilworth area of Charlotte, NC in 1945. She graduated from Myers Park High School in 1959 and moved to Columbia, SC to attend the University of South Carolina. She obtained her associates degree in 1961. In 1962, she married William Burley McGill, Jr who later became the parents of Michael W. McGill and Melissa R. McGill. In 1980 she married Hugh M. (Murk) Alexander. She was preceded in death by her older brother Samuel K. Price, her older sister Alice Price Harris, and her younger sister Brenda Price Brown. She is survived by her husband Murk, son Michael, daughter Melissa, Amy Bouch, nephews Clayton and Hayes Brown, Dean and David Falkenbury and five great nieces and nephews. She was a breast cancer survivor of over 20 years. Chelly was a member of Shandon Presbyterian Church and prior to her illness led a very active life. Before joining Shandon Presbyterian Church, she was a member of Kathwood Baptist Church, where she coordinated the Wednesday night suppers. She worked at various places in her life starting at Ivy’s in high school. Later she worked at Boineau's Moving and Storage, Service Corporation of South Carolina, and co- owned an Antique store with her sister Brenda. She loved plants and animals, especially her cats. During her adult years she played tennis (her favorite sport) on the women’s tennis team at Wildwood and various other locations. She was also very creative and for many years and made and sold wreaths and mantle pieces, many of which won blue ribbons at The SC State Fair. She was also involved in the architecture and/or the interior design of the homes in which they lived. One of which was featured in Southern Living Magazine as a part of an article regarding the Wildewood Garden Club. For many years, she was a member of the Wildewood Bridge Club. Her family and close friends would like to thank the staff at Life Care Centers of America on Faraway Dr. for their compassion and care for her in the last two years and Lighthouse Hospice for their care in the final months of her life. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at Shandon Presbyterian Church on Sunday, April 23, 2017. Burial will follow in First Presbyterian Churchyard.
