COLUMBIA - A funeral service for Robert Maxwell Spigner, 56, will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 21, 2016, at Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Columbia Ward, 4440 Jackson Blvd., with burial in Mill Creek Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, 2016, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. Mr. Spigner died Friday, July 15, 2016. Born in Conway, he was a son of the late Gordon Maxwell and Margaret Larraine Wellons Spigner. He graduated from Dreher High School and attended Midlands Tech for architectural engineering. He retired from St. Johns Fire Department in 1994 as Engineer/EMT. He received the Heroism Award for bravery during Hurricane Hugo, along with other certificates and awards. He was active in civic organizations, including the Scottish Rite, American Legion Post 6 and Patriot Guard Riders. He served in the U.S. Army National Guard and was past commander of Sons of Confederate Veterans Wade Hampton Camp. In addition, he was a Past Master at Fort Jackson Masonic Lodge. Surviving are his wife of 33 years, Eileen deHaas Spigner; daughters, Heather Stalvey (Matt) of Chapin, Rachel Chandler (Ethan) of Columbia; grandchildren, Nathan and Lucas Stalvey, Parker Chandler; brother, Stuart Spigner (Donna) of Columbia; brother-in-law, Arthur deHaas (Patti) of Kenosha, WI.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
