Bobby (and Betty) were born in Lake City, S.C. on April 23, 1941 and shortly moved to Columbia, S.C. After a few months we moved to a new house directly behind the Olympia School. We all three graduated! Bobby participated in football and other athletics. He and most others, loved Coach Giles.
Bobby was a mechanic at the Columbia Post Office where he labored for over 40 years. Bobby had a struggle (don’t we all) at Parris Island, but he passed and he was a genuine Marine. And he was proud of it!
He later had two loves – woodworking and square dancing. He made several beautiful pieces of furniture but much of his time after work was spent at the Columbia Twirlers, where he served at times as the President.
Robert was a member of the Whaley Street United Methodist Church growing up, but in his later life, he joined St. Andrews Baptist Church where he sang in the choir. He also sang with the Joy Singers and “Beau’s Boys” class.
A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 10, 2018 at Whaley Street United Methodist Church, with burial in Greenlawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2018, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel.
