Born on March 2, 1950 in Aberdeen, Maryland, Robert was the beloved son of the late Charles P. Sr. and Jennie McLurkin. He earned his Bachelor of Arts from Southern Illinois University and his Masters in Business Administration from Olivet Nazarene University. He was a Plant Manager for two manufacturing facilities of Caterpillar Tractor Co. He retired in 2008 after 40 years of service.
Robert was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping and motorcycling. He was an enthusiastic fan of the South Carolina Gamecock Women’s Basketball program and followed them in their numerous journeys to their National Championships. He travelled extensively world-wide for both work and pleasure.
He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Sandra (nee Atkins); sons, Jason and wife Trish of Fair Play, SC, Jeffrey of Winston-Salem, NC; siblings, Ronald and wife Yvonne of Manalapan, NJ, Jill Morgan and husband Ray of Houston, Tx; grandchildren, Gage, Jacob, Shane,Kayla and numerous nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents Charles and Jennie (nee Fair) McLurkin; brothers, Charles and Julian and sister Jennifer (nee Cashen).
A private family memorial service will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at 2:00 pm.
