IRMO - Mr. Robert “Bob” Hale passed away Tuesday, June 12, 2012. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, June 15, 2012 at Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church. Visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, June 14, 2012 at Caughman-Harman Funeral Home, Irmo/St. Andrews Chapel, 5400 Bush River Road, Columbia, SC 29212. Pallbearers will be Taylor Cornett, Zachary Cornett, Frank Manos, Charlie Smith, Gary Yawn and Greg Yawn. Honorary Pallbearers will be the members of the Irmo Optimist Club.
Bob was born in Chattanooga, TN on July 3, 1927. He was the son of the late Roy Lewis and Myra Allison Hale. He was predeceased by a sister, Phyllis Hale Woolf. He was a graduate of the Baylor Preparatory School where he lettered in football, baseball and boxing. He served in the United States Navy and was involved in the testing of the atom bomb during World War II. Bob was a 1952 graduate of the Georgia Institute of Technology and while at Tech, he lettered in baseball. Bob retired from AXA Equitable Insurance Company. He was the founding President of the Irmo Optimist Club. Bob has been involved in the Irmo Optimist Club for 32 years. He was a member of Seven Oaks Presbyterian Church. Bob was an avid sports fan. He loved to golf and play bridge. He was a loving grandfather who attended all of his grandchildren’s activities.
Bob is survived by his wife, Lois “Willie” of 60 years; son, Robert Lewis and daughter-in-law, Terri Hale of Chapin, SC; daughter, Cindy and son-in-law, Ben Cornett of Columbia, SC and four grandchildren, Taylor Cornett, Zachary Cornett, Reagin Hale and Savannah Hale.
The family wishes to thank the Oncology Staff at Lexington Medical Center and Dr. Chaudhry Mushtaq and Dr. Fred Kudrik for their wonderful care and kindness.
